Darwin Centre, Natural History Museum
The Darwin Centre provides the public with an interface to the scientists and curators who work behind the scenes of the museum. It is an opportunity for people to understand the museum is not just an exhibition space but also a working scientific institute. An atrium gives visual access to the zoology department and some of the vast wet collection – seven floors of specimens preserved in spirit jars. A series of triple monitors running along the length of the atrium give an overview of the work of the botany, entomology and zoology departments and their collections.
